who had broken compression fracture of vertebra

Just wondering your experiences? how long did it take to get back in the kayak? do you still feel the vertebra when paddling?
Broke TH 7 a month ago, seems stable, no operation.

Broke my T11. My back has never been the same. Lot's of popping and moving, more so now that my muscles are loosened up, compared to being very tight for the first two years after the accident. Took me about 3 months until I could jump up and down without pain. Went kayaking again at 4.5 months. If I stomp a boof too hard my back pops out of place, and then I have to pop it back in place in the eddy. The injury didn't affect my river running and creeking too much, but I've never felt as good doing freestyle as I did pre-injury. Although that's probably just a weak excuse for not playboating enough and getting old.

Good luck and I hope you heal up well.

Ha! That's funny. Although technically, Fusilli is the one that got oriental massaged... I got wall checked.

On the river, I can abandon who I am and what I've done. However brief it lasts, while on the river I am nothing important and everything insignificant. I am flotsam, and happy to be so.

very interested in this

crushed t8 and 9 on sept 14. ended up in Flagstaff Memorial where t7 - t10 are now in a metal cage. Good job by Dr. John Hall and he is highly recommended. Spine Doc here in Tulsa said paddling is ok when I am up to it but very adamant no rolling a kayak due to the twisting involved and tearing the cage loose. Said it took up to a year for the bones to fuse and come back to see him in a year for review. This was after several reviews. Lots of other injuries have kept me off the water but will soon be able to paddle a new Thrill Chaser due to me in a few weeks. This will get me back kayaking and if I screw up looks like I will join the swim team.

So any and all feed back from kayakers with spine injuries but who go back to kayaking and rolling same is much appreciated.

thanks for sharing your stories. My accident was first february and I just found out about the fracture last week. in ecuador they did x ray and said its just muscular.I had lots of pain for one month. now its better but physiotherapist said no kayaking at the moment. but feel not up to it anyway. my goal is beginning of may. I am lucky its "just" a stable wedge fracture, but the hight of the vertebral body is reduced on one side of
40%. I wasn't really aware that you can knock your had so much in hole. could have been as well my friends kayak.. ??!??
how did your accident happen?
