Thanks for reading guys- Jason, hope that your run go well if you are inspired to take the journey! My perspective is just one of many, though, and I have only seen the river at one specific flow.
Here is a post on the Kokatat blog that presents a bit of a different perspective from a group that was there around the same time as us: Kokatat | Stikine Adventures / Kokatat
The only person who can know for sure if you are ready is.... you. So if you feel like you have the skills and mindset to make it happen, the go for it! The Stikine has a lot of mystique that both draws people in and keeps people out. It is hard to sift through all of the legends and stories and to weigh ourselves in order to find out if we are truly ready. But if you are feeling it then you are feeling it. Hopefully we will all continue to choose wisely in order to minimize the incidents on the Stikine as it does draw larger and lager crowds year after year.
It is a challenge well worth taking on, but it is also important to be ready. Reading about the recent epic in Tajikistan was a great reminder to me of how difficult things can get if they do go wrong on a remote expedition. Things went well for us, and I am thankful for that.
