What will be the best class IV runs around Memorial Day?

I'm an open boater from TN and will be in the area over memorial day and I will have 2 days to boat.

I will be back at 4th of july so I would like to hit something that won't be running on the 4th and something I've never run before.

Last year the toughest runs I got on were the Encampment, lower fish creek, and spencer heights. I wouldn't want to run anything any harder than this and I would appreciate some suggestions on other runs.

Scott, I forgot you were out in CO

Will you be around over Memorial Day? What would be some good runs for me to hit around that time?

As for the "IV", I noticed on my last trip that the Colorado "Class IV" was a little pushier and less canoe friendly than the class "IV" runs we talk about on boatertalk. I'll planning on trying some harder runs over July 4th once the levels have dropped.

I'll be in the Vail area getting ready for the TEVA games if it all works out. I don't have enough experience to point you in the class 4 direction out here. But, there's a ton of it.

You might want to mention what part of Colorado you plan on being in since your only here for two days. It's a big state.

Dowd Chutes or the Numbers. Parts of the Clear Creek.

I will be in the Walden Steamboat area

But I'm wiling to drive 2-3 hours. I've already done most of the Poudre and wondered what other good IV runs I should check out besides that and the Arkansas and the Dowd Chute (those are basically everything that I have run in the state).

Everything will be running on Memorial Day, so I'd say to just pick something nearby to wherever you are to keep driving time down on your two days. As somebody else mentioned, it's a big state.

That said, the Numbers section of the upper Arkansas pretty much sets the standard for Colorado class IV, so that would be a good choice if you're in the area.

Have fun!

If it is running, the Upper Blue is a hoot. The put in is kind of a scene, as there is limited parking, but the take out is big and partyriffic. Short enough to run it a couple of times a day. Afterwards go to the Dam Brewery in Silverthorne, drink some of the water you just ran, then put it back in the river

Everything is running, but I always head to the Numbers since it usually peaks right around that weekend. When it's big #1 and #5 push the IV+ mark, but the lines are the same and it's still a playboat run. Hoping to see 3500 or more this year...

Join up, suckas.
