Getting up to see the man early is no longer what it takes. Camps aren't assigned until your group is ready to launch, if I am not mistaken. It may be helpful to go see him and tell him where you'd like, but it won't happen on the spot.
Also 19+ is the magic # for big camp sites.

As far as access, I think you need more water to float back up the side channel. As the levels drop (not sure if 4K or 3k is right) it is an inconvenient carry over the boulders up to camp.

nice tent sites and views.

While the tammies are really taking over both camps, they may be on there way out. I saw lots of dead tammies down in the flats and heard a rumor of a beetle that was introduced to kill 'em off. Looks like it might be working.

Personally, I'm getting to like the idea of Hades bar (for smaller groups) - it's a short walk up to the eddy for Little D wave, and it's a great sandy beach at most levels. Excellent for swimming and horseshoes.
