Westwater bike shuttle

Where is the bike shuttle, is it easier to do than driving for a winter run? thanks for beta.

The ride begins from takeout, following the obvious upstream road, winds up and through the desert and returns to the putin road just after the low bridge about 3/4 mile from the rio.
Definitely doable when dressed for conditions, be ready for sandy washes and solo time.
The bike shuttle is by no means a time saver, but def. a fun ride.

That depends on if your peddling that bike or twisting the throttle on it.

caverdan's got a point. If you're on moto, the shuttle is much quicker than the hwy.
Great jumps and nice wide open terrain. Just dont crash or you're a LONG way from help.

as I recall the key is a right turn down a double track. You kind of climb over a rise over 2-3 miles and when you can see down hill across the valley to the
ridge on the north horizon you take that right. Used to be marked with kokopelli markers. Further east up the ridge are some white rock outcrops where the trail busts the ridge down to the RR tracks. Fun ride, we used to hammer it out in about an hour and a half.

It's the way to do westwater, especially if you're coming from somewhere far. Then you only have to bring one car! The one direction that I would give is that after the road has parelled the train tracks it turns to go over the railroad tracks. Make sure you turn off the road onto a trail before going over the tracks. I've mostly done the ride at night and it has never taken me too much over 2 hours on a human powered bike.
