Westwater Bats

Went on a fun westy trip this weekend with a few buzzards. Lots of fun all around. Camped at upper little D, and saw some bats right at dusk. As night fell, you couldn't see them anymore, but I shined my headlamp above the camp in the dark, and the bats were all over the place on bug patrol. We proceeded to watch the bats via headlamp as they darted around. A few grabbed insects a couple of feet from my head in full dive bomber aerial acrobatic fashion. It may have been the rampant intoxication of the group, but damn we had fun watching the bats! One guy started throwing small pieces of sticks in the air, and the bats would dive bomb and follow them to the ground. Fun!

Throw in the majestic bald eagles, the squirrel that tried to commandeer a raft at lunch, and the suicidal rabbits on the shuttle road and it was quite a fun wildlife experience.

Good ole westy!

Suicidal rabbits is right, once driving some dirt tracks around Little Hole this jackrabbit gets spooked by our car,all he needed to do was stay put and no worries, instead he bolts full tilt boogie across the road headlong extreme faceplant into the embankment on the opposite side and starts doin' the funky chicken then we couldn't help but run him over.He made Darwin's top ten fo'sho'.
Lots of critters at night on the mesa, gazillions of rabbits and kangaroo rats darting to and fro',albino toads too.
