Three of us floated Westwater on Saturday in our packrafts. The ranger told us we were the first all-packraft group he'd sent off. And that we'd be the only rafters having fun at that level. (He said it had dropped to 1700 during the night, though the gauge looks more like it was 1800-ish for the day...)
Can't speak for the folks in big rafts (we did see boats getting stuck on and between rocks in Skull) but we did have fun. Just rollicking enough to follow my boat-scouting companions through without quite messing myself. We only scouted Skull.
I'm new to all this, but from videos I've seen, there's not much in common with 1800 and the usual spring flow. I'm guessing it's like a whole new (smaller) river. And that maybe we did have appropriate craft for the conditions.
