Does anyone have any beta on the West Dolores River coming out of Dunton? Looking to head there and check it out if anyone is interested.

You've got roughly 20 miles of III up from the confluence. Not sure about the wood situation and I don't know what you'd find further upstream than that.

I have often wondered about this stretch. I haven't heard of any of the usual Dolores suspects doing this. There are a few spots from the paved road where you can get a good look and in year's past I've seen some river wide downed trees (the West Dolores Road is a great road bike ride, btw). I'd expect a lot of wood/strainers. And a lot of private property. Love to hear a report if you go! Same with Bear Creek below Rico. I have always wondered about it, and have heard rumors of kayaks in there, but there are/were tons on downed trees.

Raining here in Dolores...more snow up high? More water in the rivers!! YES!

about 20 miles up the west fk, the woody class 3 slightly improves, and is in a deeper canyon.. alpine areas above offer little potential. Bear is okay. we hiked in almost 2 miles and found one fence, a little wood and continuous class 3-4 creeking. roaring fk. is an even shorter but better option, was cleaned this year, and is road access.
