Water near Aspen?

I'm going to be in Aspen next week with my wife and kids. I know there's not much water left but if there is something floatable, I'd like to at least get wet a couple days. I probably can't leave the family for more than 3 or 4 hours so it'll have to be reasonably close to town. Any thoughts would be appreciated or if anyone in the area is paddling and wouldn't mind some company, let me know. I'm mostly a class IV+ or lower guy these days but I have run a good amount of class V and still do periodically.

O' and I should bring a dry top, right? I'm an east coast guy so the dry top has been packed up since May.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Mike

Run down to Glenwood and run Shoshone. Nice Class 3 maybe 4ish.

Lower Fryingpan River

The lower Fryingpan is running. It's a great, short, scenic road-side run outside of Basalt. There are a couple Class IV rapids but the rest is Class I to III. Put in across from the Seven Castles subdivision. Take out at the 7-11. I used to run it after work when I lived in the RoFo Valley. Get it while it lasts!

Last I saw there is some new wood in the lower pan. River wide tree down in the only major rapid and s few more big logs in play after run off this year. Needs a good flossing before I would go in there.

Thanks! Good to know about the lower Pan.

Neil - thanks for the invite! I wish I could join you but we are traveling on Sat. It sounds like the Shoshone is my best bet though.
