USB guage wrong

I know the gauge has been reading exactly 83 cfs for a week now. I thought that was fishy, so I went yesterday and today to check. Yesterday seemed closer to 150-200 and today is probably over 200. Maybe even 250. No wood down through Lumberyard. Not sure after that. We'll try to go in on a wood scout soon. Let me know if anyone's been in there yet.

oh, and if you want to run it in the next day or so. hwy 72 is closed at the base of coal creek canyon. you'll need to come up flagstaff and take gross dam road.

might be able to drop in this Sat for a quickie. thanks for the update. we should call the colorado water agency and see if they are going to fix the gauge or if it's just iced right now (which seems weird since the ned source gauge is working).

it's definitely not iced. everything is melted up here. indian peaks snow pack looks DEEEP. we can also use the "Moffat Tunnel" guage to see what they are bringing through the tunnel. it came up to 120cfs tonight, so we know it's more than 83. I'm guessing USB is peaking at close to 300 tonight. get some!

Does this mean Alto-alto will be running as well (for the sake of IV boaters like me)? It and USB share the same broken gauge, right? I drove past it yesterday where it goes under 119. It looked low there. But I'm probably not that good of a judge.

Not familiar with this specific gage site, but many sites will have a staff gage that looks like a big ruler. You can go look at this staff gage to get the stage- a number in feet. Then, use the site's rating table to find the discharge, instead of having to eyeball the flow.

Sent a note to the DWR folks... Here is the reply. Looks like they hope to have it fixed shortly.

I am the Hydrographer in charge of the BOCPINCO (South Boulder Creek near Pinecliffe) station. Since the station was re-opened this spring, the encoder we use has experienced some problems. I noticed the problem a couple weeks ago and attempted to fix the encoder. The shaft was not moving smoothly allowing it to register proper gage height, I cleaned it and thought I had success but it is back to a flat line again. I now have a replacement encoder that is scheduled to be installed tomorrow morning. We should be up and running by the weekend.

If you have any further questions, feel free to respond to me directly.

Thank you
Patrick Tyler
