Upper Colorado - overnight parking

A group of us are planning a several day trip on the Upper Colorado: Pumphouse to Hanging Lake. At least we were until I discovered that CDOT doesn't allow overnight parking at the Hanging Lake rest area. While we could park at Dotsero and then shuttle the cars to Hanging Lake when we reach that point, I have been told that Dotsero is not someplace you want to leave your car overnight. Are there any other parking spots within 10 miles or so upstream of Dotsero? Any other ideas?

Call Blue Sky Rafting in the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood. they do bike shuttles thru the canyon. They could pick you up and transport you to your vehicle safely parked in G-town.

Lyons Gulch is a good suggestion since there are usually people camping nearby, which should help reduce the miscreant factor. Also just up the road 2 min walk) from Dotsero is a little parking lot for the Ute Trail, you should be OK parking there.

Unless you're really cranking in old-school kayaks, Pumphouse to Dotsero is going to be more than a couple of days, especially with the flow dropping. You may want to plan on at least 4 or 5 days for the entire 60-mile trip...

There should be parking at the bridge at Dotsero, which will be a good place to take out.

Have a good trip,

I am part of BSk's party, we are doing the trip in sea kayaks so I don't think the length will be a problem.

Does anyone have any beta on Burns Rodeo Hole? Just hoping to find out what is there, and where it is before I barrell through in a 17' glass boat. Thanks for any info.

Stay as far right as you can - there's a nasty, unfriendly, jagged rock at the bottom. It's short, but is the thrill of the stretch below State Bridge. Have fun
