so we were driving around lake city the other day and decided to drive up cebolla creek canyon. to our surprise, tucked down in the canyon, a long ways from anywhere, lies a very intense canyon that has some runnable and some not so runnable drops. the pics in the gallery are from this stretch. im not sure if anyone has done this run before, it looks pretty gnarly and theres a good amount of wood, but i think with some maintnence a good number of drops could be run. heres what i observed:
good put in: hidden valley c.g.
good take out: spruce c.g.
length: 2 mi, maybe
class: V/V+ (P)
there is actually a drop just above the put in, hike upstream maybe 100 yds for a four-tier small ledge drop (III+). otherwise put in anywhere at the parking lot. the action begins right away. we only scouted the major drops, which is where the good stuff is. the run looks something like this:
1st drop- ledge drop (above put in
2nd drop- small 5 foot falls (wooded right now)
3rd drop- very narrow sieve/notch into sticky looking hole
4th drop- 15 foot sliding jagged cascade
5th drop- s-turn into a small lefge drop (wood up top right now)
6th drop- small ledge into long slide
7th drop- ugly ledge into good, somewhat narrow slide
8th drop- small pour off ledge into small pool
9th drop- ugly 15 foot falls
right below the 15 footer is the ugly portage, you can see it in the very top of this picture
below the portage there is a lot of wooded class III and IV, some of which can be run, some of which cannot. take out at spruce c.g., as the canyon between here and cebolla c.g. is even more of a wooded mess than above.
this run has a lot of wood, but there are also some really good looking drops. if anyone is interested in running this sometime next season when the water is a little higher, myself and a couple of friends would be win with some chainsaws and stuff and take some of the wood out.
