Upper Animas - good to go?

Some of us are thinking about heading down to the Upper A and Vallecito this weekend or next. Right now, the Silverton gauge is low, but some folks tell me that there's enough inflow below to make it doable. Other folks tell me not yet. What's the word from Durango? High enough and free of ice bridges? We're southeast-bred boaters, so we don't mind the bone zone, but would we be better off to hit Cross and Westwater instead? Thanks-

steve

The gauge is reading 141 cfs. I would say...no. Piedra and Vallecito would make a good combo. I hope this helps.

Steve, with your skills you will want to wait until high water. Go in above 3000 at least to get the most bang for your buck. That canyon will be cold as fuck too. Vallecito is always sick...let me know if you need a place to stay in durango. My parents and grandma live there now.
