Upper and Lower Eagle - high water questions

are there any known hazards or bridge clearance issues on the upper and lower eagle runs? i was thinking about rafting from eagle-vail (i70 bridge put in) to edwards or wolcott this saturday, and i was wondering if all the bridges have clearance.

is the bridge at trestle rapid passable at higher flow? we ran it about 5-6 years ago around 3500 and got under it fine in our kayaks, but i seem to recall it may have been tight at that flow for any raft. any other bridges, or any of the diversions above avon, to be heads up for at these higher flows? thanks in advance.

We ran the lower from Wolcott on Saturday at about 4700. Didn't look like there was room under Trestle for a raft, but if there is, it's tight and you'd have to be laying on the floor.

Dead cow is fun, and the last couple of waves on Rodeo are huge! Have fun!

you should be good to go for all but tressle, but by saturday that may change, its slowly dropping. If you are in a paddle boat without a tall frame you could probaly do it. have fun.

any idea what caused the increase in flow over the past day? the pattern over the last week seemed to be tailing off, and then yesterday there was a huge slug of water. just scorching hot with more melt? or was the increase a result of rain in the watershed? just wondering, thanks.

Both. It was hot yesterday and Vail had a major microburst in the Middle Creek Area around 6pm or so. Friends in Vail last nite said flooding all around the Vail Library and Dobson Ice Rink. The runoff overtopped culverts just west of the main Vail roundabouts. No rain downvalley at all.

There was also good rain around the chute last night. While we are on topic the chute has changed. I am not sure if this deserves its own thread so I'm poaching this one. There is a new signifigant wave coming off the right shore just below tysons wave. Tysons is a easy v-wave and the new wave is a crusher with another wave backing it up. It is runnable but you really want to be left with a right hand angle towards the bottom of the chute. The pourover in the middle of the river is really in play at this level as well. Have fun out there and be safe
