Rafts pay the cargo rate to have the train take the( rafts) to Dgo, hike out and meet the train in town to pick up the rigs. Again, cargo prices are about $20 for about as much weight as will fit. cargo cars do get tight when there are more than a few trips loading at tacoma. 1 Day trip not planning to do the box can send thier stuff out for an easier hike.

Mania said the train with the boxcar stops at 3:50 and you need to tell them ahead of time.

They also require a cargo reciept before you start loading. Usually it is so rushed and hectic a few boats can slip on but rafts need to be paid in full before you get on the river. Cargo can be purchased in Dgo or silverton.

I ran just the box today, town was @ about 3100, and I guess in the box was AT LEAST 1500 or so. All I can say is that it was, in relative terms, "pretty exciting". Like all the others have said, expect big flows, fast water, and cold. If it's your first, perhaps go with someone who knows it, or make sure your solid. Have fun!

I thought is was OK to walk on the tracks after the last train has passed?? Haven't paddled the Upper A since the early 90s but we took out at the last bridge (just downstreamn of Tacoma) just after the last train (5:30 or 6:00) and walked out to Rockwood. Maybe we were lucky?
