Union Street waves on S. Platte just bumped up to 500 cfs

Looks like they just opened the dam and the Union Street waves are rocking.

What's the beta on Union? Parking? I heard there's a street light so you can surf all night... is that true? Artificial full moon - cool.

Keep it simple. :)

Good waves. Good parking. And, yes, a convenient street light.

Also, many people don't seem to realize that there is a third good wave about 200 yards down stream of the other two.

South on Santa Fe (85) past Hampden (285), Union ave comes up right before (north of) Belview. Park next to the baseball diamonds. Beware the last drop, can be real sticky, but I hear they did some work on it this spring.

I'd recommend letting Union flush for a few days at high flows before getting in the water. This is the first time it's been up like this since last fall and who knows what has built up on the banks If it stays dry in Denver, Union will probably be in from here through the summer.

Oh, by the way, here's the gage to check for Union:
They change the release frequently, so it's worth checking before you go.

Union really isn't worth much of a drive unless it gets up to around 700ish (I think?). top wave hole doesn't really come in until this level and I don't think Hollywood shows up until around 900cfs. When I first learned to Kayak I'd hit Union all the time. Its a great place to develop a bomber roll given the waters squirlyness.

ah, yeah.. I'd let it wash out a bit before jumping in with full chemical gear. try and catch it on a northeasterly breeze day and get the full effect of the upstream Waste Management facility.. still, fun at high water.

If you are in the area, the waves can be good down to 500. I hit it last August at about 1200 and that was a blast. Top hole is great at that level. Agreed on a great place to learn too. I don't like to admit it, but I took many a swims through that putrid water.

Here you guys go again with how great Union is...

Of course Cecil is in there talking about great it is... just like last time. All we need now is rasdoggy to chime in about his newbie yahoo group who runs the knar of the Chuttes every day.

Probably won't see him though because he hangs out on the other kayaking forum.

All I got to say is I appreciate every one of you who runs Union. You keep the real rivers free and open for the rest of us "real boaters."

Hey, I heard Union is going to be rockin' today... anybody up for an after work run???

I hope you're all on board cause this bus is ready to roll.

Jeez, was that as good for all of you as it was for me. Keep your pants on SEIYGE, there is plenty of GNAR still out there for ya. BTW, when I go out to Union I will always be reminded of your post and how lame I really am.
