It's not clear it was an entrapment. Here's the article:
SHERIDAN- Police say a 46-year-old man drowned while swimming in the South Platte River near Union Avenue Sunday morning.
Police say David Loughrey jumped into the river around 11 a.m. while hanging out with a female friend.
Police say Loughrey was swimming near a series of chutes designed to slow the water when the strong undertow pulled him down. Police say he was not wearing a life jacket.
Loughrey was under the water for two to four minutes before his friend and some passing bikers pulled him out of the river.
Both Sheridan and Englewood Police and fire departments responded and began CPR. Loughrey was transported to Swedish Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the current is very strong in that area and can pull under the best swimmers.
The eddies there are pretty darn powerful. It also shows how much difference a life vest can make.
