Yeti- Have you ever looked at Ute Creek in that area. It flows into the Rio Grande. I saw pictures of it on a fishing website and it looked promising. Access would be difficult though.

the upper uncomphagre above the hwy has 10 to 12 drops that have some runnable potential.gorge is difficult to scout from alpine loop road but you get a basic idea. first big drop is a 25 ft falls that lands in a shallow pool (3 to 4 ft).there are 2 drops above this in 12 to 15 ft range, sketchy entrance over mine debris and really surgy recirculating pools.below is a 30+ ft drop and a number of other drops, one that pinches up to about the width of a boat. There is mine debris and wood in a couple of these drops. the gorge walls are loose and i noticed every time a car went by debris fell into the gorge. there are two sketchy looking drops, a corkscrew drop and a sharp left turn with lots of wood. at the bottom of this section is a decent size pool right above a 80 ft sieve/rockfall but there is a bushwack from hell on river right which brings you out at the first hairpin. if you really want to work this hard, good luck
