Car vs kayak "high action race"? I thought you had worded that wrong in the first post, but you were serious.

I'm sure that won't come across as contrived or anything.

Race idea...

What about a race on a steep or difficult river/creek that has a tough 4x4 route alongside it? Perhaps a difficult mountain bike uphill vs. a steep creeker "downhill".... If these ideas are used, I expect a producer credit and a jet black version of whatever 4x4 rig is getting pimped.

This will be a tough one. In the canal near the mwave, I've been outrun by kayakers while driving, but I drive like an old lady, and the canal is basically flat - not super exciting. Apart from that, most rivers, even fast ones, are actually quite slow. Have you seen that internet clip with the jetpowered kayak vs a dune buggy? That's way faster than most rivers.

What about a short race down a waterfall or slide, with a kayaker vs a mountain biker? Or is it critical that it involve a car somehow? Kayaker vs mountain biker on vallecito would be quite cool, and more of an even match, since there would be a short climb for the mountian biker to get around the gorge. Then, although the two aren't right next to each other, the trail hugs the lip of the gorge pretty closely, which could provide some continuity.

I think a tough 4x4 road would be the only way to race a kayak.

Ask Anson Fogel about the footage in Wildwater. Gives me chills every time I see it...

That Anson Fogel footage is absolutely amazing. And definitely the kind of rapids we want to shoot. The idea of doing a 4x4, modified jeep along some parallel off road trails racing against the kayak feels like the right way to take this.

Any suggestions on that location? Has some challenging 4x4 trails that run in the vicinity of the river. Maybe between 3-5 miles long?

Thanks again guys.

Thanks for the kind words guys - left you a message, agmcfarlane.

If you all like the footy, the full film comes out on DVD and BluRay in March, will be at all the usual shops like CKS, REI, etc - and you can buy it direct from us at www.wildwaterfilm.com - new website coming next week. The film has been doing really well, we're surprised and stoked - best adventure film at kendall, tour with banff, best short film at salem - - - the wall street journal (?!?!?) said it was their fav film at Banff - that's gotta be a first for a whitewater film eh? Touring around right now a lot - tonight at the SIFF cinema in Seattle, Monday at Vancouver film fest, next Thursday in Portland, etc etc...we'll keep showing it in larger, nicer theaters when we can.

Bryan B Real Ward will be doing our dirtbag tour, showing the film in campgrounds, takeouts, shops and backyards from March through July around the US following the water, boating, and showing the film.

Anyway, thanks for all y'all's support. All yall is a word. Don't argue with me. This is mountainbuzz. no arguing.

If you could get the dam people to release the right amount of water you might consider 11 mile Canyon by Lake Goerge Colorado. That might make for an interesting race coarse along a dirt road. It has tunnels and lots of turns....... and I'm guessing it's about 7 miles or so long...... but I don't remember.
