While consuming some adult beverages at the springs last weekend, one of the rail workers was soakin up some of the river on his day off with his wife that had flown in from Texas. This is what they told us.
The workers you see on the tracks are from all over the US and they come in for several weeks.
Monday through Friday they hold up all standard freight traffic until after 1900 hrs. Amtrac passenger trains are being diverted.
Saturday and Sunday they are allowing all traffic to pass during timed windows.
So, its quite Monday through Friday during the day, but noisy at night.
The trains you do see Mon. through Friday during the day is the rail base gravel train.
Sorry, I love trains so I asked a lot of questions.
Funny thing is he said that all the work comes to a screachin halt when the girls in bikni's float by......rail workers get on radio and let everyone down the line know and the binoculars come out. ha! They are almost done with that stretch and are working their way towards Glennwood canyon.
