Would the session+ be a decent boat to learn in? Any suggestions on a good economical boat to start out in would be appreciated.
whitewater kayaks are broken down into 3 styles, play boats, river runners, and creekers. The session is an old style play boat, and not an ideal choice. You'll want to find something that is primarily a river runner. If you go too cheap you'll end up w/ a boat that's not quite right for you and struggle w/ the sport.
As suggested above, take a lesson at a kayak shop. If you spend about 400.00 bucks you should be able to find a modern boat w/ good outfitting on the used boat market. Get some good stuff to wear as well, the cold water turns many people away from kayaking when they are in the beginner phase.
