the Big Thompson as we knew it

Is now gone.

I drove up today to have a look, and wow, it has changed.

I am starting this thread for other peoples opinions of rapids and rock deposits. It looks like a lot of big rocks have turned over and might cause undercuts at flows of 300 and up. Mostly above and below Drake.

The gnar is all new, with the exception of the mini gorge above big daddy #2, it looks like every rapid was scoured. Garbage disposal now pours into a tunnel of rocks on the right side. Big daddy #2 blew out on the right and the trout pool on river left above BD2 looks like it will have a nice falls into it, but not an easy one.

The whole wall on river right above GD slid into the river, and deposited on the right side for the next 1/4 mile.

The surprise sieve above the mini gorge washed out, so at least there is not a portage anymore.

It will be nice to see with some water in it next spring.

ps. both the dams blew out as well. they are fixing them both. the 10'er is dry and almost fixed.

The 30' slide dam below the main section blew out on the right. they are fixing it now, but could probably be hucked after 5pm on weekdays or anytime sat, sun.

I didnt get to see the pool, it prob lands on rocks anyway, but it was the only thing that looked like it went at 25cfs.

Wow! huge changes from South Boulder Creek up to the Poudre... Eldorado's creek bed through the park looks like a completely different animal! Looks like it will boat must cleaner and more natural than the mankyness before. Boulder Creek is totally different too. It's going to be very interesting next season to see the changes on these Front Range Creeks! No one in our lifetime has seen these creeks look like they do now...wild! Mother Nature had her way...

I got to take a look at Canon Shot and Double Drop. Canon Shot looks like it might have changed for the better. It may be a sweet 8 foot boof now! Double Drop looks like a shitty jumble of blast rock, who knows. I'm excited to see how it all fills in!

To be fair, this what a lot of the Big Thompson looked like before the flood.

I bet the first year of water will cause a little more settling and shifting. Does anyone have photos, or will I have to go see it myself?

I would say its worth a drive to see it. So far I've only walked from GD down to just past cannon shot. GD is messed up, but from there down looks good. that mini gorge stayed clean from what I can tell. I'll see if Jen is up for some pictures tomorow. I have a sweet photo of Josh on double drop i will try to find.

how was mexico?
