Tentative Animas River Days 2006 Events

All comments welcomed concerning the events

River Events

Men's & Women's Freestyle

Pros
Expert
Novice

[Coed Team Freestyle

Combined 1 Pro, 1 Expert, 2 Novice, must be comprised of 2 men & 2 Women

Slalom

K-1
K-1W

Boater-X - Upper Animas, Silverton to Tacoma

Men's
Women's

Tuber-X/Slalom

Coed Event. Starts at the top of Smelter, finishes below Corner Pocket.

Rules:

5 Tubers start each each heat
5 down river gates, 3 of which must be made (you can touch the gates)
Missed gate is a 15 second penalty
All tubers wear helmets & pfd's
No fins, but hand paddles are legal
You can dump your opponent
You must remain in your tube, you fall out, you're disqualified
Tuber with the best time wins
Crossbows are not legal

Raft Race - 32dn Street to Corner Pocket in Santa Rita Park

Coed Teams, rafting liveries included

Who's Your Daddy? Race - 8th street Bridge to below Corner Pocket

Anything goes event....if it floats and is not a boat

I think boatercross is better suited as a short, observed event. Maybe from Smelter thru Santa Rita?

Silverton to Tacoma is a little too far for a Boater X. I think it should be 1/2 mile or less with areas for potential carnage, but nothing too dangerous.

An "extreme" race could be done. What about a section of Lime that is clean, but still Class V, maybe 3 miles or so in length where spectators can still watch? I am thinking somewhere on the first gorge (through Adrenaline?).
