Strontia Springs run??

I have always wondered if the 2-3 miles directly below Strontia Springs Res would be worth running at higher flows. Current release out of the res is above 500, which would seem to fill the canyon nicely making a couple miles of CL III-IV boating. The fish ammenities would also seem to make some nice play waves and holes in the lower parts downstream. I am guessing that Denver Water has the river closed to boating, but has anyone ever run it before the res was built, or poached it somehow after? Anyone checked if it is open to boating now, providing you are willing to walk the 6+ miles? Just curious.

I wouldn't bother. From what I recall biking there, it would be almost all class II, with a large dam that eats up a bunch of the gradient that might otherwis be fun. Don't know if they allow boating or not. I wouldn't do it though.

Join up, suckas.

Yeah, it's kind of tame below the "dam" but from there up to Strontia Springs dam, it looks like it could be really good boating. Not sure it's worth the carry unless you could rig up a tandem bike with a kayak trailer and have another person pedal it out for you.
