Starting out creeking?

I've seen a couple posts by newbies lately asking if they should buy a creeker as their first boat since they would like to start creeking as soon as possible. This seems highly unrealistic to me.

So here's a question for the group. How many of you started creeking within your first year of boating?

It seems to me that to creek, you need good river running and rolling skills...skills that are probably learned running rivers and playboating.

more importantly to have a big stable boat to begin with is the gist of the question right? I would much rather learn in what I did (a creekboat) than say a tiny playboat.

to answer your question I think I was in creekboat territory after about a year. I had no business there, but the boat looked good

I've never boated before, but I have posted a lot on Mountain Buzz!

I think learning in the play/river runner hybrid (Dagger Juice) that I did helped me a ton. I got my ass handed to me over and over. But I stuck with it, picked up a Jefe, & started hitting creeks after 3-4 months in. I did a ton of pool classes and a guided trip to speed up the process too.
