Spikes on Poudre gauge in FC

Anyone know why the gauge for the Poudre through Fort Collins has huge spikes every day for the last week or so? Looks like almost 3000cfs, but can't be true can it? Homeless people sleeping near the river would get washed away.

this ain't Boulder, no homeless people on the Poudre. There was a big group of us up on the narrows the past few days so the urine count might have caused the spike

Ah, that explains the spikes, but don't be thinkin there's no homeless in the Fort, probly less than Boulder, but that's because they got washed away.

I noticed the spikes also. It happens every day at 1:15, and has been increasing for 6 or 7 days, corresponding nicely with the total diversion of the river. I e-mailed the GS asking about its cause, but haven't gotten an answer yet. Wondering if they are putting the one largely inflated number in there to crank the daily flow average (long term record)...with one spike from 2.5cfs to 2800cfs for just one reading in a 24 hr period, the daily avg. goes from ~3cfs to around 30cfs. That makes it look like there is actually base flow in the river; three words: Glade Res. Sucks!
