south fork of lake creek

I went on a hike up La Plata trail today. Has anyone run the 12 footer and any of the above stuff on the South Fork of Lake Creek? Its a pretty cool mini gorge.

I have run parts of the South Fork. The main issue with that creek is that it might be the most toxic waterway in the Ark Valley. The water even tastes bad when you get splashed and it is very badly discolored. I don't know what the long term impacts might be...but my kids have ten fingers and ten toes so it can't be too bad right?

Mike, what would be in the South Fork of Lake Creek that toxic? I always thought of that valley as undeveloped and remote from polution issues. Does it have something to do with old mines?
