so i went driving the other day...

.....down to a fabulous little gem of a town called lake city. i was bored and had some time to kill so i figured lets go do some rallyin' in the LC.

as justin reported, lower henson -> triple drop -> top drop has wood in it and looks very scary. rest of henson looks clean and good. henson falls (the port-agg) is even clean and look nice but still ugly with no wood in it.

middle henson is all good.

upper henson is good, the box is free of ice

lake fork good all the way to sherman. didnt check the upper reaches.

checked out north fork of henson, the map showed a serious gradient drop, the flow looked good, and the local geology sponsored bedrock drops, so i figured it was at least worth a check. it was hectic bush whacking all the way, so at least let me say that access in way fun at best. the creek is small but doable. some very steep sections. from the top, drops down manky but possibly go-able V/V+ cascades. last drop elevenmile but less water. then a brief class III section, and then theres north fork falls, which is actually another god damn dam ala the busted ones on henson and the one on cinnamon. these guys just dont quit. the falls are around 30' in height, and the hole at the bottom looks chundery but i would imagine its real deep. the section immediately below the falls is a short V/V+ cascade. this drops into a gnarly rapid with some major wood issues. this all then feeds into a nice long bedrock section. theres lots of boofs and pinches and small falls for a stretch of about a mile. there are lots of drops of varying size, but nothing of a large nature. after this the creek starts packing a bunch of gradient and drops over some NR cascades, and then pours through a short class IV section at the very bottom.

bottom line: the falls goes, and the 1 mile section below the falls probably goes as well. above and below is just too manky and steep. flows would be difficult to hit, as you would need the right combo to pad shit out and yet not enouygh to be heinous. there is a nice campsite right near the falls that could be a fun park and huck if youre in the area. theres more potential upstream but i was hampered by time and only saw the bottom 3 mi or so.

if anyone has run this drop or knows the real name, please let us know. if not then its the generic ole "north fork falls" until someone runs it and then have at it!

i snapped a bunch of pics but i only posted some of the better ones on my webshots album -> North Fork Henson Creek
