Snake going to 130k cfs

Just saw that the Snake below the Salmon went over 139,000 CFS this week, and it looks to go back up to 129k soon. I've been on it at 12k and thought it was big. Does anyone have any experience with that much water out there and what can you tell us about it? I know it isn't the most challenging whitewater out there, but where else are you going to see that kind of water and any gradient?

Below the confluence at those levels is mostly like the Mississippi River. If you launch at Hell's Canyon Dam, the flow right now is in the 30's and more fun. So that 139K figure is a bit misleading. You need to look at each section of the river separetly, i.e., the dam to Pittsburg Landing, from there down to the Main Salmon confluence, and from there to Heller Bar. We ran it last year and started with 40K at the dam and ended with 120K at Heller Bar, which included 22K coming from the Grand Ronde which is just above Heller Bar. There were essentially no "rapids" below the confluence, just a big, wide, fast river with occassional hydraulics and roller waves. Still good to be careful because that kind of water can be sneaky and roll a boat on a rogue lateral. Good luck
