This footage is amazing.
Even if you don't know much about slalom racing or c-1, take a moment to appreciate old school at it's best. And, what, it was on tv or something... commentary and slo-mo replay.

I was one of the many people screaming on shore that day. I clearly remember when John came around the corner from the upper part of the course gasping. It looked like I was watching movie footage where somebody had dramatically turned the speed up. His paddle strokes were so much faster than everyone else's it didn't look real. As a friend said he looked like he had a time bomb in his boat and he knew he had to get the hell out of there. If I remember correctly John would've placed third in the K1 division that day. And that's with one blade versus two! It's still stands it's one of the greatest athletic performances I have been fortunate enough to witness.

Thanks for posting this video.

Awesome is an overused term but applies to both of these gentlemen.

WOW, that was powerful stuff!!! It is hard to describe the power and control demonstrated by the first boater alone.

Slalom boaters make the best boaters for sure!!!

I think We should set up a course up on the poudre for training!!!
