Silver Bullet Run-New portage trail in Buena Vista.

Not sure if many of you know, but the Silver Bullet is the old dam drop that is about 1 mile downstream of the Buena Vista River Park and about 1 mile up stream of Johnson's Village-JV ( start of the Milk Run ). For about 20 years, there has always been a fear of walking around this drop due to private land issues. And the drop has had a big punch at the end of the old boat ramp. This was all true, until now.

The state has acquired the river right hand side of this drop and has put in a new and very nice public portage trail. It is very easy to locate, easy to get out and easy to scout and walk around the drop if you want. They also raised the pool height below the drop on the right side to soften up the drop. So for now, it is pretty easy to get down, it is shallow, but with more water, it will be even better.

The state has plans to come back in the fall and re do the entire drop from scratch. With the end goal of having a very safe and easy to navigate rapid on the Ark.

This area is super cool, scenic and some fun rapids. You can paddle some easy class 3 below the BV Park, make your Milk Run 2 miles longer or you Narrows run 2 miles longer too. So a great improvement for both private and commercial boaters on the Ark for now. With even better improvements coming this fall. Thanks Colorado State Parks.

Here are some pics if you want to see what is all looks like at about 500 cfs. The album includes some pics of the BV park too the same day.
