Shredder on the Grand Canyon??

Doing a private trip in August (1st time down!) and wondering about the suitability of a shredder on the GC. Have been wanting to set it up with an oar frame anyway and would row it by myself. The wife and I ran the middle fork of salmon with it pretty loaded down a couple years back and it did just fine.

Wondering if I'd get munched on the big stuff......

You will probably get a wild ride all over the place, but isn't that the fun of a shredder? Just be sure your crew is okay with the fact that your carnage potential will be higher and the impact that might have river running dynamics. It will help if you're good with self rescue and recovery in the case of a flip or dump.

Sounds like a good time. Have fun!

I took a 14' SB down last year. You'll be able to take highly technical lines on all the big name rapids and avoid the big munchy holes (maybe except for Lava, though there may be a good route on the left for you), and you'll have an absolute blast on all the many many more rapids that no one talks about and the the 18' gearpigs just pass right over with a little bump in their ride.

Sounds like a great time to me!
