Rafted Shoshone twice this year once at 8500 and again at 17,500. The first time it was about 5:00 p.m. and we pulled alone the side of the road nearest the mountain and talked to the flagger who after some convincing proceeded to let our three vehicles down and park and run it. The second time we pulled up to the flagger at the Shoshone exit again but he would not let us pass. They get off work at 6:00 and so we went to hanging lake exit to gear up and get ready and at 6:15 we pulled to the right at the Shoshone exit and backed down the ramp where we had the place to ourselves. After running it two of us ran up to get the vehicles and than actually decided to do a second run and we just drove up the closed highway
to the put in. Of course I would not recommend any of this but if your desperate for a run, try hitting up the exit between 6-6:30.
P.S....video of the 17,500 CFS run can be found at
