Scams on boat purchasing
Okay, I apologize if this is one covered already, but wanted to alert you all to what I think is a scam being tried through the boat swap board. It goes like this.
Someone emails and shows interest in your boat. They are from out of town and say something like "I trust it is as advertised...consider it sold." What follows is a series of convoluted messages about sending you a cashiers check, setting up shipping etc. When you get the check, it is for significantly more than the price. In my case a check for $2,750 for my $250 used EZ. Though I like the thought, it was ridiculous. When you email about the problem on it NOT being a cashiers check and the amount, they say, "Oh, sorry, just apply it to shipping and then send the remainder after the deposit to a UK address via Western Union.
Obviously lots of problems with this! emails are from ericpaul and santoswilliams. Just a heads up. I could be wrong about it as a scam...but I don't think so.
