Ecuador's Jondachi River is being threatened by a dam that would ruin both sections of this classic river.
For those of you who have paddled this run, you know what a serious loss this would be to the paddling community! If you haven't paddled it, check out this slideshow below and you'll get an idea of just how great this river is.
Besides kayakers, most locals in the Napo Province of Ecuador oppose this dam, but the government is pushing ahead regardless. The Ecuadorian Rivers Institute, via a branch organization called Amigos Del Rio Jondachi, is working to stop the dam--primarily on the basis that the government has not done an environmental impact statement and have grossly overestimated the amount of flow in the river (so, the scope of their project is not consisitent with the "median" flow in the river).
Want to help? The Amigos Del Rio Jondachi needs money to pay their lawyers who are working on this at the national level.
Small World Adventures and Amigos Del Rio Jondachi are selling very stylish T-shirts, and all proceeds go to the cause of saving the Jondachi River.
If you want to help, buy a T-shirt (or you can just make a donation if you don't want a t-shirt). The shirts come in forest green or navy blue in sizes Small through XL.
To order, go to:
There is an online payment form here. The t-shirts cost $15 each and shipping is $2.70 per shirt.
Thanks for supporting the Jondachi River.
