Save Patagonia Rivers from Hydroelectric Development - New News Site.

For anyone interested in this issue there is a news-site that will keep you updated on the plans to dam the Rio Baker and Rio Pascua in the Aysen Region of Patagonia, Chile.

Here is the link:

http://patagonia-under-siege.blogspot.com/

One of the interesting things that I have discovered is that the Carbon Credits System (Cap and Trade) developed by the Kyoto Treaty is driving the construction of these dams. Factories in Europe that can not curtail their emissions buy cheap "carbon credits" from companies like Endesa to invest in "renewable energy" sources. The result is the construction of HydroAysen type projects which will feed the mining industry in Patagonia (65% of Chile's electricity currently goes toward mining). The cheap raw materials thus produced continue to accelerate world economic expansion. It would be different if Endesa were taking 10 fossil fuel plants off-line with the construction of these dams, but that is not what is happening. What we are witnessing is an economic free-for-all that will plunder the environment of one of the last wild places on earth.

Anyway, if you are interested in keeping informed, bookmark this blog or sign-up for the e-mail updates.

Thanks for you time in reading this.

Regards,

Chris Spelius
