I ran it on Thursday. Personally, I wouldn't take a 5 year old at this water level. I think it was about 1690 cfs for our run. For experienced folk it isn't a problem and the cottonwood tree strainer is easy to go around (until the water drops - then it could be a serious obstruction). But the water is very swift and there are numerous channels through the willows and tamarisk that require constant maneuvering and decision making. If your child happened to fall out, it could be very difficult to rescue him quickly.
The best word I could use to describe the trip is "lovely". It isn't a white water run like I normally do, but the water was swift and the scenery was incredible. There are biting flies and gnats, but they weren't bad as long as you were moving down the river.
