Steer Gulch camp is much better than Trimble. We stayed there on a club trip with 14 boaters, but some people ended up with marginal tentsites. There plenty of space for only two tents, but you have to hike up a hill to the sites, i.e., the landing isn't great. I would only camp there if there were no other choice and its probably he worst campsite I've ever had on a Juan trip, but with so many great campsites, the bar is pretty high on that measure. Last trip down we got lucky and were able to camp at Steer Gulch even though it was supposedly taken (it wasn't), but that was in April during marginal weather with hardly anyone on the river. Don't think you'd be as lucky now that its approaching prime time. To beat the wind, get up real early.....
