Safety Boaters needed For Pro Invitational
Paddler magazine needs help with safety at the Paddler magazine Pro Invitational Monday, May 29th in Steamboat Springs. The Fish Creek Race is on Upper Fish, a hefty stretch of river but fun nonetheless. We need as many competent boaters as possible to come up, run the river early Monday morning and set safety in the canyon. Obviously, bring boats, ropes and other safety equipment. We would prefer if safety personel were all in kayaks because it makes one more mobile within the canyon but we'll take any volunteers. FYI: The walls of the gorge are very steep and difficult to walk. I know some of you were miffed at not being invited to compete. If it's any consolation, we weren't either. We just have to run the contest. So come up, paddle a damn fine stretch of river, eat a free meal and drink free beer!
Please meet Sunday, May 28th at five pm at Elk Park next to D Hole. It's right by the big bronzed elk on the west side of town, just west of the library. Again, the safety meeting is at five with Nick Hinds, Kevin Thompson and Joe Carberry (Nick is in charge of safety for the creek race) followed by a barbecue. Monday night is Paddler's 15th Anniversary party at Sun Pies Bistro next to the river and down the street from Backdoor Sports. Even if you don't feel like helping with safety come on up. It's gonna be a hoot!
