All--this will be a little redundant for those of you who have been following the Coordinated Reservoir Operations for the Upper Colorado River Basin. I just sent this note out to my Ruedi list and didn't feel like reinventing the wheel.
Well, the heat has pushed our Coordinated Reservoir Operations ahead of schedule and we are beginning our release ramp up from Ruedi to the Fryingpan today. We are starting as I type.
We'll be ramping up releases in 50 cfs increments over the next several days, so, it will not all come at once. Our current schedule for these operations is anticipated to be as follows:
Date Time From To
5/19 1300 250 cfs 300 cfs
5/19 1800 300 cfs 350 cfs
5/20 0800 350 cfs 400 cfs
5/20 1800 400 cfs 450 cfs
5/21 0800 450 cfs 500 cfs
5/21 1800 500 cfs 550 cfs
5/22 0800 550 cfs 600 cfs
5/22 1800 600 cfs 650 cfs
5/23 0800 700 cfs 750 cfs
5/23 1800 750 cfs 800 cfs
Most recreation on the Fryingpan is fishing. As has been discussed in this e-mail notification in prior weeks, fishing while wading will not be desirable at these rates, nor comfortable during the incremental release increases.
For those of you who BOAT, I know these higher flows on the Fryingpan are enticing. Please keep in mind that releases will be bumping up over a series of days until Tuesday, May 23rd in 50 cfs increments. If you are not comfortable in that kind of water, please stay away until the ramping up is complete.
Originally, we had planned to have this release schedule last about two weeks. With the weather being as warm as it is, we might not last that long. We will re-evaluate on Monday and I will send out a notification if the schedule changes. We are coordinating with entities around the Basalt area, as well, and will remain in communication with them throughout this operation.
As always, feel free to contact me if you have any related questions. I'm in the office all day to day and will be on cell phone over the weekend at (970) 215-9545.
Don't get too hot!
