Walton Creek

Have you guys looked at Walton Creek, south of S. Boat? This little SOB runs over 1000 cfs, typically during the first week in May. It might just be a suicide run with trees, rocks and boulders following you down.

Nice photo of the fall. Well done!

Gettin it done in an afternoon mission. Nice work. Lets hear some details. That drop looks a bit familiar. Well kind of. If its what I am thinking, it doesn't look nearly as manky with more water. Need some stories, though. Bottom out on that one? Any carnage?? Did you run some stuff or plop and drop?

Hello all,

I'll put a blog up later today but just wanted to give a quick update in case any kayakers in this awesome fucking state want to change their plans for this weekend.

Yesterday, the Routt County River Enforcement posted a pic of a first D on the Roaring Fork of the North Platte:

This was a serious hike in with some awesome potential above Bitch Slap Falls (picture above). Bitch Slap Falls has a tough 10-foot lead in--tough to get a boof before leading into the 22.

Yesterday afternoon, we stomped A.C. Slater Falls (Saved By the Bell) on Slater Creek in the northwest corner of Colorado near Baggs, Wyoming. We've been looking at this falls for a couple of weeks. Clean-as-can-be 30 footer with a 20-foot sliding lead-in. The beauty here is the whole creek is sweet. There's 2-8 miles of awesome water to be had but we need some help cleaning it out. It's on National Forest land. Not much wood. Go up there this weekend camp, and check out Routt County's answer to OBJ. Right below the 30-footer is a nice Class IV+ We're as suprised as anyone that these haven't been run. If someone knows anyone who's run these, our apologies. If not, yeah for us, and everyone else who gets to enjoy the beauty of exploring with a kayak.

And, by the way, the bottom of Walton is decent (Fish Creek-like) but the upper is a mank fest. 45-footer onto solid granite. Private land too......

If anyone gives A.C., be sure to get left of center over the falls. It is potentially shallow right of center. There is an auto boof due to the slide, so penciling is not likely. We all ran directly over the roostertail at the top of the slide, far left. This sets you up perfectly.

Also, with the gauge peaking around 500, you should hit this one in the afternoon. The gauge ( http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?09255000 ) is way downstream, and after many miles of flatwater. It drains low elevation snow, so get it early and often.

The falls is not marked from the road. You probably won't find it unless you have your gazetteer. It's marked on the gazetteer as "Falls".
