Rob Roy Creekin

I just saw Rob Roy for the first time (I know, old movie...but here you have time to catch up on all the flicks you missed while you were living your life) -- anyone remember the scene when he's going over a waterfall and then down a slide before climbing inside a dead cow to hide? That was a sweet little creek. Was that in Scotland? Anyone know?

I've been parusing a book someone sent me about all the drops around the great lakes...had no idea there was such badass shit in that region. Thanks for that guide, whoever that was.

BS...

I believe that book was probably from Livingston. Although they are short runs... they are sick looking.

How are things in Iraq?

Yeah, cool stuff up in the Minnesota and U.P. area. Some relatives of mine bought property up there. At first I was a little bummed, then came across that book (and "Ecsanaba in da Moonlight). I like to look through guidebooks and dream when I can't get out; sometimes better than kayak porn. Looks tough to hit the flows if planning a road trip though.

A good addition to any library

Oh yeah, almost forgot; The Craw has a free boat for ya. He's always giving those things away. People always asking him on the river and he just pulls them off his trailer at the takout. He also always has free swag in his truck; visors, t-shirts, hoodys...

(inside joke, he gets sooo pissed because I often offer his stuff to strangers on the river and watch him deal with it.)

haHA! That's some good shit. I'm notorious for giving away friends' cigarettes...

Cute girl: "Hey, do you have another smoke?"
Me, smoking: "Sure..." (to my friend) "dude, give her a smoke."
Friend: "wtf?"

So..Iraq? It sucks. No suprise there. I don't think I've quite hit rock bottom yet, though. I've only been here about a month...been gone for closer to two. It's starting to get real old..but not yet to the point of despair. Trying to keep a stiff upper lip. "Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English (american) way".

I'm still clinging to some naive hope that I might not have to stay here an entire year. That's starting to fade though. I think a dark day is coming when I just don't get out of bed for a while.

OH...that candy thing you guys sent. I'm both sad and ashamed to report it's all gone. It was like crack. One night I ate half of it. I tucked it away for a while as a test of will. Yesterday, I busted it out and finished it off.

That's exactly what I was doing with the guide book. It's a nice little form of escape. That's all anyone does here with spare time...little escapes. A movie, tv shows on dvd, book, internet, video games. There really isn't anything else to do but try to get out of this place, either in your head, in someone elses or behind your eyelids. Well, poker I guess.

Till later, peace out.
