Roaring Fork Conservancy float June 9

Calling all boaters near and far who love and care for the Roaring Fork River!

A group float is scheduled to bring together those of us who appreciate and enjoy this river and its tributaries. The Roaring Fork Conservancy is hosting the annual River Stewards Float, a gathering of those interested in giving back to the river and meeting others of their ilk. The River Stewards are a fun, active subset of the Conservancy that strive to create events and spread enthusiasm for protecting the river. The group is anchored in good times and there is no commitment.

This year the event is being expanded to include what is hopefully a flotilla of private boaters. We will be launching from Carbondale at 9:30 sharp on Saturday, June 9th. A catered lunch will be served at the riverside paradise of Prehm Ranch - a rare opportunity to enjoy this unique spot and meet other boaters.l

For those without water craft, spots are available on board guided rafts.

Cost for the event is $25/person for private boaters or $50/person for spots on guided boats. Pre-register for the event ASAP to help us get a handle on numbers at the following site:

Chime in here with any questions or to arrange shuttles. Thanks everyone for caring about river, wherever you are. Hope to see you at the ramp!

Good work Brian!

We will try to attend but it's too early for me to commit. Please elaborate on the successes of the group and the lunch (beer?) being served. I will write a check, on the behalf of the Roaring Fork river, regardless. Thanks!

Gremlin et al.,

The River Stewards formed in 2008 as an outreach council for Roaring Fork Conservancy. Targeting young adults between 25 and 40 years of age, the Stewards aim is to involve a younger group of local professionals and river enthusiasts in the Conservancy's charge of bringing people together to protect our rivers. The River Stewards Float, now in its fourth year, was conceived as a fun way to inspire our friends and neighbors to explore, value and protect the Roaring Fork Watershed. Adding to the success of the Float, in recent years the River Stewards Steering Committee, currently made up of ten Roaring Fork Valley residents, has developed a series of River Talks to engage our community in discussions about water quality, water quantity, and habitat preservation in the Roaring Fork River watershed. The River Talks have included a primer on Colorado water law and how it affects our daily lives in the Valley, a tour of Aspen's hydroelectric facilities, and a women's fly fishing clinic. The Stewards aim to create community and promote the Conservancy's critical work with an emphasis on 'friendraising' rather than fundraising, and we are excited to meet new friends on the river at this year's Float.

Lunch is going to be catered and will be thai cuisine and of course we will have beer, hopefully from a local brewery. There will also be acoustic music from the bluegrass genre.

Hope to see you and anyone else interested out there. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the Roaring Fork watershed, meet other like-minded folks, and also to hang out at Prehm Ranch which is a gem along the Roaring Fork.
