It's just a design flaw. Double pylons that cross the current on the diagonal.
Looking down stream thru them the daylight is about 5 feet apart. You have to ferry thru them. The whitewater rescue often prys people off them and they catch debris in bigger runoff years and lots of the slots between the pylons fill in with logs.
