PUblic comment period, Ruedi, Granby res

Hi all,
Attached you will find a copy of today's news release announcing the availability and public comment period of the Draft Environmental Assessment on the Colorado Water Users' Commitment to Provide 10825 acre-feet to the 15-Mile Reach of the Upper Colorado River.

The public comment period is open until October 24, 2011. The Draft EA can be viewed from our main website, our Ruedi website, or our National Environmental Policy Act website.

We will be hosting two public open houses--addresses are in the news release. The first will be Oct. 11 in El Jebel. The second will be Oct. 12 in Hot Sulphur Springs. Both will run from 6-8 p.m.

We are accepting written comments on the draft EA through October 24. To submit a comment, please provide it in writing via e-mail or regular mail to the attention of Lucy Maldonado at or 11056 W. County Rd 18E, Loveland, Colo. 80537.

The websites also contain our most recent updates on water operations and other activities going on across Reclamation's Eastern Colorado Area Office.

As always, please let me know if you have any related questions. I'm in the office for the remainder of the afternoon today, Friday the 23rd.

Actually, the best summary available is the introduction to the Draft EA--its first 2.5 pages. There are links to the Draft EA off of all of those websites I listed.

There were some articles two years ago in the Aspen Times and maybe the Sky Hi Daily News, but I didn't save copies.

We kicked off the scoping period in 2009. When that public comment period closed, we started doing the studies and research needed to write the Environmental Assessment. That took two years. Now we have a draft ready for additional comment and feedback.

There will likely be some articles following my announcement of the draft today. Maybe someone else has old links from the scoping period. Or maybe someone like Trout Unlimited put something up on their website--anyone know?

But the first two pages of the draft EA are helpful and fairly easy reading.
