Proposed Remodling of the Eagle River

FYI, not sure if we should be excited or afraid. See below:

You are invited to support the Eagle River Watershed Council

as we present our conceptual restoration plans for funding from

the Eagle Mine Natural Resource Damage Funds

on

Wednesday, May 3, 2006

Avon Library

200 Benchmark Road

Avon, Colorado

5:30PM to 7:30PM

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is hosting this

meeting seeking feedback on the proposals during the preliminary review

period. A pot of $2.4 million from the Colorado Natural Resources

Damages Funds is available for restoration and replacement of natural

resources damaged or lost within the Eagle River basin as a result of the

release of hazardous substances from the Eagle Mine. The Eagle River

Watershed Council is an applicant for the funding and will be presenting

our conceptual restoration plans to the NRD’s workgroup at the meeting

to obtain important feedback. It is our intention to invite the

public for response and comment as well;

we hope to see you there!

Lightning, i just emailed Maria and received all kinds of info. The area for the restoration is for the stretch near Lake Creek (the edwads lake). Looks like they are timing it with the development of the new park in edwards (old B&B Gravel Pit) which "we" just bought. Doesn't look like it will affect any of the rapids (ie the last nice rocky drop on private land at the end of the edwards mile).

" The entire project site is approximately 1.75 miles long. It begins approximately one-half mile downstream of the Edwards bridge and ends at the Hillcrest Drive bridge. For most of this stretch, the Eagle River is unconfined as it traverses a broad alluvial valley that includes the Lake Creek confluence. "
