While here at the Outdoor Retailer show I have started to collect gear as give aways for a safety kayaker raffle at the Gore race. I know Tim Kennedy has been working hard to gather a crew for race day and hopefully this will help. Manufacturers like IR, nrs, at, astral, wrsi and others have offered to donate gear for the raffle. So if you are available on race day and can spare a couple of hours you may very well win some cool stuff. I will have a full list Monday of the gear up for grabs. See you at the race.

How about saftey rafters.
I tried to e-mail tim/timberline about saftey but no reply.
We are still going to be up there for the race, though.

Hobie, Thanks for doing the leg work on this! And please thank all the manufacturers donating gear. Those interested in helping with safety coverage, please email me charlie.ebel at gmail or Tim Kennedy tkoakley at gmail. Thanks
hobie
im interested, i dont feel like vomiting before gore and running with jello arms ill be glad to help with some safety. what time is the race start sat?
No worries Charlie and yes, no doubt thank you to the following sponsors for their huge contribution. OR was a great place to talk to all of them about the return of the Gore Canyon race and they were all eager to help out the safety crew raffle. I got some great stuff.
1. Jack’s Plastic Welding – their top of the line $300 sleeping pad! Like four inches thick and ultra comfortable.
4. GO PRO hero cam – Nicholas (the founder) gave me their yet to be released wide angle digital camera. Waterproof, small, records video and sound, attaches to anything and records at a high quality.
5. NRS – Palm Equipment – A big ole’ super beefy throw bag. This thing is a rafter’s dream rope. One of the beefiest rescue ropes I have ever seen. Palm Europe as well. Don’t see many of these over here.
6. Snap Dragon skirts – The best skirt available in my opinion. Implosion bar, Kevlar and a super strong rand. Snap Dragon is awesome and the threw in a $190 skirt!
Features 4mm Armortex neoprene, rim guard reinforcement, heavy duty extreme shock cord, and implosion bar.
7. Several Autographed WHITEWATER KAYAKING: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE 2ND EDITION. Ken Whiting is a pretty amazing paddler, he even saved my life from a sieve years ago. His latest book is a tell all of kayaking from start finish and answers just about any question you may have. Plus he and Brandon Mark signed them. Pretty cool.
8. An autographed Going Vertical, The Life of an Extreme Kayaker book. Tao was there doing a book signing and penned his name on the inside. The book just came out and is a pretty good read. His book signing was the largest the publisher has had at OR.
9. Source DVD from YGP. If you have not seen this movie, get it. One of the most beautifully shot and high action kayak films ever made. Rush was there and contributed one to the safety boater raffle.
10. Keen footwear – Mark Cohen gave us a couple dozen pairs of Keen’s latest socks. He won’t be there but sends his best.
11. Kokatat – A TBD item of winner’s size. They were not sure what it would be but said it will be sized. My guess is a top of some sort from Kokatat but I can’t confirm 100%. I will know more once they are home from OR and check availability. The winner will contact them and order their size.
So those are the items I have in hand and ready for the race. About $1,500 worth of the best paddling gear made. I also spoke with NRS who said they will ship me something this week and both Yakima and Thule have said they would send me a pair of their kayak stackers. When I have them I will confirm it but so far we have some great stuff for the safety raffle. Hopefully this will help inspire paddlers that are not racing that day to help with the safety. Please see Tim Kennedy’s post about volunteers if you are interested.
And to all of the sponsors Thank you so very much for the help and belief in the Gore Canyon race. It is more then appreciated.
