Possible openings on 8/3/11 - 8/18/11 Grand Canyon trip

I have a permit for a 16 day 16 person trip. This was a make up lottery for abandoned 2011 dates. I was scheduled for another trip that was canceled and decided to try to pick up any August date and won this in the lottery in late May. This will be my 4th private trip, third as permittee, and 5th if you include the commercial trip that got me hooked on the Canyon adventure.

I may have somewhere between 0 and 4 openings depending on how some things work out in the next week.

The trip is outfitted by PRO. The gear is set - sorry no private boats.

In all likelihood we have our primary boat captains so do not need primary oarsmen but may need one backup.

We have one kayaker and with 4 boats we could easily accomodate a total of 4 kayakers without adding a boat. We don't expect kayakers to paddle the entire trip although you would be more than welcome to do so. There are long stretches of no action so lashing to the boat is OK.

Due to some soft commitments I'm looking to get an interest list together. There is no guarantee of a seat. It all depends on the soft reservations so think of this as a "standby list" on an airplane. We should have a good idea the last week in June and the final head count and gear selection (number of boats) has to be to PRO the first week of July at which time final payment is due.

This is a private trip. That means everyone participates in cooking cleaning and two lucky folks get groover duty. The food is similar to a commercial trip though. We eat pretty well.

The itinerary and menu are set. The only thing we need to decide on is head count and number of boats.

I was reminded by someone who queried. Estimated cost is $1200 - $1400 per person. It depends on boat configuration and final head count. This includes all on-the-river costs from PRO and the fees to the NPS. It does not include transportation to/from Flagstaff and beverages - you are on your own for beer and pop.

Logistics wise the river days are 3-18 but you have to be in Flagstaff the evening of 1-Aug for the 2-Aug shuttle and boat rigging. We return to Flagstaff the afternoon of the 18th and from there you are on your own for the return. So you should also figure a hotel or camping for at least one night

We still have at least one, and possibly 3 openings. Anyone interested? If one of the parties drops then we would have a boater opening.

Cost is going to be closer to 1400 than 1200. We like good food so the menu went up.

Email is best - tonyandpam@priborsky.net.
