PDX boating?

Wanted to let every one know who helped me choose a paddling jacket that I received it and am loving it. And you were right the company's people were nice to work with. Thanks Peakuk the jacket is great and at half price it is even better.

Now on to boating and such, I am a new boater started late last year and am looking for some EASY runs around Portland. Any one have a suggestion or can recommend a book I can get that will tell me about the rivers and what class etc they are?

Check out the Kayak shed in Hood River...they know a lot, are friendly and can point you in the right direction

Either Soggy Sneakers or guide to the whitewater river of washington has a lot of paddling in both wash and oregon.

+2 on Soggy Sneakers, but Paddling Oregon isn't bad either.

Closest is likely the Clackamas, below Bobs Hole is a convenient run with some nice Class II+. I would suggest site, you can probably find some fellow boaters that will be more than happy for you to join them. Also check out Alder Creek they offer lots of classes and such and that is a good way to find boaters of similiar skill/experience.

The North Santiam also will run all summer and isn't too far away.

Lower White Salmon

Is a great place to work on your skills in the summer and there is always a group paddling that section. Also, the Oregon Kayak and Canoe Club runs a beginner progression... check out the Club blog and/or join the yahoo group.
