I didn't know they gated the West Fork off. Aren't there residences up there? You are not confusing this post with the Piedra? If not, sorry about being uneducated.

I could have the wrong road because it was 10:30 @ night. But we were at the forest service road "West Fork of the San Juan" on the North side of 160 about 15 miles N.E. of Pagosa towards Wolf Creek, right before the big water fall bull off on the south side. Perhaps there are other roads to get up to the West Fork run, but the forest Service road we tried definately had a closed gate right off hwy 160 last Saturday night. We ended up camping @ the Piedra which is 40 miles west of there, so i'm quite sure there is no confustion between the two. Having never done the run, I'm also not sure this is the correct road to get to it.

UR on the money.
Isn't there a website that posts when these roads are open? I remember someone posting last year about the Lower Piedra gate. Anyone?

Thanks for the beta...

Was there enough flow for the tunnel & the lower falls on WC pass?

Steve, I think this is the link you were looking for. It's dated april 13 so it might not be current. Looks like most roads are closed, including "west fork" which i'm assuming is the one we want for the WFSJ?

You still thinking escalante this w/e or is it gonna be too low?

Sweet, thanks Brian,

Sik vid of gary in the gnar, too bad he swims all the time.

I think Escalante will be back up in time, the weather forecast is good. I am planning on it. Bring UR playboat too, the M-wave is right down the street, if I knew where that was...
